Matt Thompson

February 2, 2021 by Brandi Zavislak

My name is Matt Thompson, I was born in Regina but have lived in Canora most of my life. After graduation I was on the road for many years working on the rigs as a motor hand. I decided I wanted to make roots in Canora and applied for a position with  Thompson and Johnsson. I received my Powerline Journeyman ticket and am now currently employed with Forbes Bros LTD and have been in the lineman trade for 12 plus years. I am married and have two young boys. My family and I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. I am looking forward to working with council and mayor Mike Kwas in the years to come. I am hoping to gain trust and make new relationships with the members of our community. I am always willing to listen to new ideas, answer questions or address any concerns that people may have.

David Wasyliw

David Wasyliw

I was born and raised in Canora and spent most of my life as a resident here. My home is shared with my spouse Iona and she is employed by Canora businesses.

I have recently retired from a career of almost 30 years employed by the Town of Canora, with 12 of those years as foreman. In the past I was a member of the Canora Fire Department for 10 years, some of which as Captain and truck/equipment caretaker. Through time I have acquired a Journeyman Automotive Mechanic Certificate, Level 1 Water & Wastewater Certificate, Fireman/ Boiler Certificate and other certification in different areas related to my employment.

Iona and myself have owned Dragon Ventures LTD since 2005, a construction company that mostly repairs grain bins and other services. Before my employment with the Town of Canora I was employed with Wyonzek Brothers Construction of Canora for over 10 years.

Now retired, I am always puttering with something: cars, houses, equipment, yards etc. Restoring, renovating, reconditioning almost anything. In the summer months we enjoy camping, golfing and attending car shows.

I feel Canora is a quiet, safe and friendly town and hope to spend the future as a resident. As a council member I hope to apply my knowledge and experience while representing all citizens to shape the future of our town.
