Sunrise Health Region has conducted a complete inspection of all the facilities in the region. This report was prepared by a consulting firm called Croft Planning and Design. The report was called the "Sunrise Master Capital Plan". It included the Canora Hospital and the Gateway Lodge. The report on the Canora facilities recommended an integrated facility which would include a community hospital and a long term care facility. It would maintain all the services that we now offer to our citizens.
The needs assessment was completed with the approval of the Master Capital Plan. The communities of Canora and Yorkton agreed to fund the conceptual planning process. This study focused on health care infrastructure needs and the results will affect all residents that currently utilize the Canora hospital and nursing home facilities.
The Sunrise Health Region hired Cannon Designs for the development of conceptual plans for an integrated facility in Canora and for the Yorkton Regional Health Centre campus which includes Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Mental Health, Home Care, Administration and Public Health. Cannon Designs were chosen because they demonstrated that they had the skills and experience to do the job but also that they were committed to engaging our staff, physicians, and clients in an interactive process to design the most innovative, functional and exciting buildings possible.
With the Sunrise Health Region is moving forward with a conceptual planning study our steering committee will be in close consultation throughout the entire process. This committee will play a role in both providing input to the study and investigating options to fund its cost.
