Town of Canora > Eric Sweeney

Eric Sweeney

I was elected to Canora Town Council on October 26, 2016. I have been employed at the Louis Dreyfus Company canola crush plant in Yorkton as Maintenance Storeman and Shipper/Receiver since March 2009. Prior to that I worked in the same capacity for Nuna Logistics at various locations throughout the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

My family (my partner and daughter) and I chose to move to Canora from Yorkton in August 2009. When we chose to move to Canora we were searching for a new home in a smaller community to get away from the "hustle and bustle" of living in a city. Upon coming to Canora to look for a house for sale we "got a good feeling" from the community.

Prior to moving to Yorkton in 2008 we lived in Surrey, BC where I was also employed with Nuna Logistics; This was a "fly in" job so I could live anywhere that was close to a airport. During my life in BC I was involved with the Air Cadet organization for numerous years and served as the Commanding Officer of the New Westminster Squadron and Deputy Commanding Officer of the Surrey Squadron. I was also employed at the Alberta Head Cadet Summer Training Centre for 10 years and served my final year as the Officer Commanding Service Support at the rank of Major (WSE). During this time I had also obtained a Bachelors Degree in Applied Design from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Since moving to Canora I have taken the opportunity to get involved in varying capacities  within the community. I am a past Chairperson and Equipment Manager of the Canora Soccer Club, a past Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Canora Community Childcare Centre, and I am currently a member of the Canora and District Fire Department. My current council portfolio is General Government and I am a member of the Emergency Management Organization (EMO) Control Group.

I look forward to continuing to serve my community in the capacity of Councillor and helping ensure that Canora remains a great place to live and call home.
