Canora Child Action Plan/Crossroads Project Reconnect

 Who We Are

The Canora Child Action Plan/Crossroads Project Reconnect is a volunteer committee that was established in 2009 to better connect the youth and seniors in our community in addition to connecting the youth in a positive way to the community itself. CAP/CPR is funded by the Community Initiatives Fund, Crossroads Credit Union, and our local community businesses. The goals of the committee are as follows:

  • To improve internal and external developmental assets
  • To encourage community involvement and volunteerism of our youth and the rest of the community’s population
  • To strengthen overall community relationships between the children and youth and the rest of the community’s population
  • To change the way youth are perceived in our community

The CAP/CPR committee is comprised of 10 volunteer residents including an Alderman, Community Development Officer, Leisure Services Coordinator and Youth Liaison of the Town of Canora. The committee meets regularily to develop and enhance its programs and activities. Some past events and activities include:

  • Music Program and jam sessions
  • River canoe trips
  • Youth recreational fishing league
  • Overnight campouts
  • Movie nights
  • Concert events
  • Spring and Fall clean-up days with coordination of grade 5-12 for local senior’s yards
  • HEEP (Home Energy Efficiency Project) students volunteered their time on a weekend to help install new energy efficient products in Canora resident homes
  • Tree planting in Graduation Park
  • Senior’s Gift giving day at the Gateway Lodge
